I have had the idea to make dog bones for children, such as my G, who are obsessed with pretending they are dogs. This idea has been swirling around the frontal lobes for probably a good year and a half now. Finally acted on it this week and success!
I went for a cheesy biscuit recipe of my own creation, and let the dog and the cat {aka: my children} help with the baking. Gabe, in his fresh new doggy apron from Grams and resident Princess / Fairy / Cat Laine helped too.

Ok, confession time... this post is so old that I can't remember the recipe. I remember there was butter, cheese, milk, salt, whole wheat flour.... it was a basic cracker recipe with cheese and chives as the flavor. The idea really was to make the crackers into doggy bone shape. And I think we've gott'n our point across on that...
*tips, the dough was chilled and rolled between baking paper, I remember that much. Be delicate!

So jealous of your amazing kitchen!! And those kids are so cute, cant wait to see them this summer!
This is so funny and cute! Your kids are adorable, and you are too for thinking to make them "dog bones" :)
Your family is simply adorable Natalie. It seems that the pretend puppies and kitties eat very well:D
lol lol lol..you cant remember the recipe!!! Girl I have photos from over a year ago thta I had every intention in posting but never got around to it..and now I have no clue what the photos are even of!!!! LAZY party of one..yep thats me!!!
You kids are soooooo flippin cute
So, I've needed this for the last 3 years since my kids too think that they are cats and dogs and occasionally tigers. I kind of see how it's developing for Drew though since I am the one that sets a bowl of food on the kitchen floor and waits until he crawls over to it - third child, I'm in a hurry and it's just a little snack until I can get the real thing done.
Side note . . . love your kitchen and oh my gosh the kids get cuter and cuter!
You have a bitchin kitchen. JEALOUS ME.
I would be shooting myself for not writing down the recipe. My boys would love these. They both LOVE dogs. We have like 12 stuffed dogs scattered around the house at all times.
Gorgeous kids! The doggy treats look great too - I love cheesey pastry things.
LOve your kitchen!! What is that tool your son is playing with?
Love the photos of the kids! What a cute idea to make them bones!
They ARE gorgeous - the kids......and the bones! Stunning photos!
Hello I wandered over via For the Love of Coooking. I often do the exact same thing, forget as it has bee so long. You have a beautiful family!
This is so fantastic! At first I thought you had a recipe there for home made dog biscuits, but making them for the kinds... how cute. Lovely pictures.
This is a great idea. I love your cheese grater (only two sides; ideal!) AND your kids are super cute. I'm doing cooking lessons with my kids this summer and making something like this would be just perfect for our "curriculum."
I just wanted to tell you have much I LOVE your kitchen!
Dear Natalie -
Greetings! Of course, your children are beautiful - but I LOVE your gorgeous white kitchen! What a stunner it is! I am inspired just by seeing it!
Found you through a comment you posted on another blog and am SO glad for it!
Best wishes always, and I hope you don't mind if I add you to my favs and stick around for a long while!
Fabulous post. There is nothing quite like cooking and baking with kids. Those smiles are worth everything.
BTW, congratulations on being choses one of the top 45 cooking blogs. Well deserved.
Hi Gildea!
You really don't have to approve this one for the comment moderation, I just thought that I'd let you know that my friend hosted a Thrive party last weekend, and I saw you in the pamphlet! I knew that you were with them, and have seen some of your Utube videos. I'm proud of your hard work with them,(though not surprised that you dived in to such a huge thing - you do amazing things!) and it looks like you've done a really good job. Good job at making your talent/love successful. And all the while being a momma too. I think I'm getting some raspberries to try your raspberries and Marcapone or marsccapone cheese. I've wanted to try it since you posted it last year, and I can't find the dang cheese. I'll find it one way or another! Laine and Gabe are butiful. Take care,
Beck

you are so missed, and just wanted you to know I keep coming back to see what recipe you've posted, only to find an old post. I hope you are well, and your family too.
Such an adorable family and photos.
We made dog biscuits last weekend for my parents' dog, and she's hooked. ;)
Where have you been on here or is there a new blog?
What a great idea!! I love how you helped feed the children's imagination by making them into "dog bones" I'm definitly going to use that one in the future for my little ones :)Thanks for the great idea!
On another note, your kitchen is beautiful!! Lucky woman!! May have to use some of your design ideas too!!
Keep Smiling
Chrissy :)
Beautiful Renovations
Brilliant, Nat. Three of my five kids think they're dogs. You just helped me decide what to stuff in their stockings this Christmas.
P.S. Share my horror: I went to the store in cropped yoga pants for an emergency paint brush pickup for my husband. Also worn; pink and white handknit socks and red crocs. I will now go curl up and die of shame.
Oh my, I bet you are going to miss this kitchen. I am going to show the kids the photos.
I'm new to your blog and love your pictures. Do you have any tips on food pics?
love your blog and recipes.. bone cookies.. how adorable! :)
They look delicious! Very clever idea.
p.s. Can we swap kitchens?
What a fun idea! I bet your kids loved them. By the way, your kids are adorable- straight out of a magazine!
Yum. Those look amazing, and like they were great fun to make, too! :)
Can't wait for you to start posting again. I feel like I need a change of pace for cooking, and I love your meals! (missing it)
